Os filmes brasileiros passam por uma fase de certa prosperidade. Uns 5 anos atrás se alguém soubesse que você assistia a filme brasileiros, ou era motivo de piada, ou você era um estranho. Carandiru, mais do que Cidade de Deus, abriu ao povão o cartão de visitas da produção nacional. Desde então dezenas de filmes feitos em nosso imenso país ganham as telas todos os anos, como uma retomada estendida.

No começo os filmes eram ótimos, claro, excluindo desta conta os da Xuxa e semelhantes. Depois da popularização, a qualidade começou a degringolar. Foi nessa época que a moda era assistir a todas as produções tupiniquins. Eu pulei. Agora, novamente, produções de qualidade se destacam. O filme Meu nome não é Johnny faz parte desta última leva.

Apesar de longo, a história baseada em fatos reais é interessante. O próprio João Estrela, principal protagonista, faz uma “cameo” como enfermeiro do hospício. Só descobri ao ler os créditos finais. Cinéfilo que é cinéfilo gosta de ler as letrinhas miúdas que rolam ao final do filme. Até a Grace, do ótimo O Barato de Grace faz uma ponta no filme. Ela é a fornecedora de um Estrela iniciante no mundo do crime.

João Estrela é um cara sem rumo que acaba se envolvendo no mundo da distribuição de drogas. É quase que um dom natural. As mesmas habilidades não são demostradas no ramo financeiro. Apesar de movimentar de 5 a 6 zeros, vive sem dinheiro. Pelo menos é isso que deixa transparecer.

A história se passa em sua maior parte nos anos 80 e 90. De novo, como todo cinéfilo, fiquei procurando falhas nesta ambientação. Bom, neste quesito foi tudo muito bem estruturado. Para ajudar as datas que aparecem ao fundo do cenário batem com a realidade. João Estrela foi preso em 27 de Novembro de 1995 segundo o calendário na delegacia da PF. Foi solto em Dezembro de 1998. O dia 12 de Dezembro de 1998 é um Sábado, e essa data aparece em um cartaz no presídio, anunciando algum evento importante…
